WHAT’S NEW AT THE CO-OP

A Message from the General Manger

With International Workers Day just behind us, I’m reminded of the daily sacrifices made by workers, how essential we are to keeping things going, and the need to try and ensure the best quality of life possible for our staff with the resources we have available.

In the last year we’ve increased wages and with that our standards and quality of service. We strive to be more than a market and hope to provide more than just jobs for locals. We are always looking for new ways to invest in our community and our workforce. For many of our staff members the co-op is a second home, a way to connect with the community, and a place where we can make a difference. We try to provide a space for workers to be heard and consider their vision for how to best run the operation. This helps ensure that employees feel empowered and can help create systems for our unique business as well as a work environment that serves the staff.

Keeping our doors open over all these years has at times been challenging but we manage to do it thanks to a great team, from hard-working staff members to our dedicated board of volunteers contributing countless hours of their lives to help ensure that we’re the best co-op we can be. So a big thank you to all the folks that make it possible for us to continue doing what we do and to all of the support we receive from our amazing members!

Natalie Cortese, General Manager

Arena Market and Café is a grocery store and eating establishment for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We are a locally owned cooperative market specializing in organic and natural food that is sustainably and regionally produced.

Our market stocks healthy, delicious food, including fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, frozen foods, and items special to the co-op, such as raw sprouted crackers and Dandy blend coffee alternative. We have a deli and a bulk section. We also carry environmentally friendly personal and home care products. We are pleased to offer a fine selection of local and organic wines and beers along with many non-alcoholic beverages. Don’t see what you’re looking for? Please ask one of our friendly employees if we can order something for you.

The café is a cozy, welcoming place to meet friends and enjoy food prepared in our kitchen: breakfast burritos and/or sandwiches, soups, salads, lunch sandwiches, a full coffee/espresso menu, paninis, baked goods, and fresh green salads. We also offer signature vegan and gluten-free choices. You can enjoy a glass of organic wine or beer with your meal, and wi-fi is free!

Bringing our community together through food is at the heart of everything we do, starting with our business structure. The co-op is a perfect place to meet friends at any time and to gather before a movie or live show at the theater. Many of our dedicated staff are long-time employees, and we provide first jobs for local residents. Volunteers contribute their time and skills to continually improve and maintain this community resource.

While everyone is welcome to shop and dine here, more than 1,000 members are now invested in the co-op and benefit from discounts on purchases and propane. If you aren’t already a member, we’d love to have you join us! For more information, please see our Membership page.
