Happy Holidays from Your Co-Op!
Time flies! It’s hard to believe that another year has gone by. With the closing of the year I’m reminded of all the things that I’m grateful for. One of the things at the top of that list is the co-op. Even though it sometimes keeps me busier than I want to be, I love and believe in what we do and try not to take anything for granted. Especially in the year that saw one of the biggest corporate mergers of natural and organic food suppliers in history. It’s a reminder that small food co-ops like us are becoming fewer. So heres to another year!
Speaking of a new year, we have some exciting plans for this one! We’ll have new vegan and gluten-free deli offerings, more art receptions (with snack sample plates, live music and wine sold by-the-glass), and maybe even some cooking class events. But before we get to all that, three core staff members and myself will be traveling to visit family for the holidays. During that time we will reduce our hours of operation. For the three week period of Monday, December 17th - Monday, January 7th the co-op will be open from 8:00am-4:00pm. We hope to be able to serve all of your needs during that period. And we look forward to coming back fresh and energized and eager to get to work on all of the new ideas!
For those of you staying here and making a holiday dinner, we have Turkey and Ham sign up sheets at the register. For vegetarians/vegans we just got in a ridiculously delicious cranberry hazelnut loaf that makes an excellent centerpiece meat replacement for your holiday feast. We’ve got all of your other holiday meal needs covered too. From regular and gluten-free pie crust to organic stuffing mix to ready-to-eat pumpkin pie, gravy mixes and more! If there’s something I forgot, let me know!

Mendocino County Farm Nog

Yield: 3 to 4 servings (24 oz)
There are many twists on the classic eggnog, and now thanks to the box variety, you can skip the painstaking process of cream and eggs and still get that classic eggnog taste.
Well, here another eggnog recipe, and this one is for the tequila fans -- which is interesting for sure and adds just a few more layers of flavor.
As the name suggests, this farm nog does offers a fresh and local from the farm feel to it. It uses an aged tequila and a nutty sherry (Amontillado style is a good option) with farm eggs and organic full cream milk. It is a rich eggnog and once you get all of the spices in there, it is quite tasty. It may even win over those who are not fans of the holiday classic!
This recipe is best when it rests for two days, so keep that in mind and plan ahead.
- 2 1/2 ounces sherry (nutty, Amontillado varieties such as Bodegas)
- 2 ounces tequila (100% agave Anejo tequila)
- 3 ounces of Wholesome Organic Light Brown Sugar
- 2 whole brown farm eggs
- 6 ounces organic whole milk (raw if possible)
- 4 ounces organic heavy cream
- Pinch nutmeg
- Pinch cinnamon
- Pinch salt
- Pinch pepper
- Garnish: nutmeg
- Garnish: star anise
-
Combine all ingredients in a blender starting with eggs and ending with heavy cream.
-
Refrigerate for two days.
-
Garnish w/grated nutmeg and star anise.
Or -- make it the easy way

-
Combine spices and booze above with 12oz Califia Almond Milk Eggnog, Silk Nog or Clover Eggnog (we carry them all, so lazy vegans and full dairy lovers rejoice!) in a blender and refrigerate until ready to serve. Garnish with ground nutmeg and a beautiful star anise!
Paleo folks can substitute brown sugar with monk fruit or stevia to taste.
